Brendan's smile widened. "Calling someone to come pick you up, Cassidy?"
I didn't answer him.
The screen flickered, wet but still lit. My hands were cold, but my voice was steady as I found Arthur's number and pressed call. Then I put the phone on speakerphone in the middle of the dining room table.
Chapter 3: Protocol Seven
Arthur answered the second ring.
“Cassidy?” he said, his tone immediately alert. Arthur Vale, executive vice president of the legal department, didn’t mince words. He knew better than anyone what my name meant within Morrison Global, even if the family around me had chosen to forget it.
I stared at Brendan as water continued to drip from my hair. "Arthur," I said, "activate Protocol Seven."
Diane's mocking smile faded. Jessica lowered her glass. Brendan narrowed his eyes, searching my face for the witty remark he so desperately needed.
Arthur was silent for a moment. When he spoke again, his voice had lowered. "Cassidy, if I do that, the Morrisons could lose everything. Are you sure?"
